Chevrolet Sets New Safety Benchmark With One Powerful Camaro

When you think of a Chevy Camaro, you probably think of the powerful engine, the aggressive look, impressive quarter-mile times around a track, and maybe some street racing. Probably the last thing on your mind is how safe it is, right? Well, that's okay, because Chevrolet has gone to great measures to ensure that the 2012 Camaro is as safe as it is powerful - if not more so.

When it comes to safety, you shouldn't just take anybody's word for it. But you can definitely trust the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Therefore, if they were to give the 2012 Chevy Camaro a five-score rating in every category (frontal barrier crash test for driver and passenger, side crash test for driver and passenger, rollover rating and overall rating), you could invest in a new Camaro with full confidence that you and your passengers would be safe in case of the worst, right? Well, we have some good news for you: the newest Camaro from Chevy is the first car to ever get a perfect safety rating from the NHTSA. That means it garnered a five-star rating in all six categories.

You're probably thinking you've heard all this before? Yes, many cars receive five-star safety ratings from the NHTSA, but usually only for a few or most categories. And among the forty-six 2012 model year vehicles assessed so far, only 14 received a five-star rating in the category of overall safety. Other safety leaders include the Accord and the Optima - both receiving four-star ratings in the side-impact tests. But the Camaro was the only one to ace every single category. Pretty impressive for a muscle car, eh?
